The nursing team work a rota pattern to ensure that a nurse is available at all times during the school day. They work into the school residence to ensure that pupils who stay during the week are supported.
The nurses monitor medication and work closely with school staff and families to meet the health needs of pupils. They provide staff training in specific areas such as gastrostomy feeds, tracheostomy care, diabetes management and continence needs. They are also the link, where needed, with outside agencies such as dieticians, paediatricians and other health practitioners. However, they do not deal with routine, day to day health issues such as coughs, colds etc. for which we recommend that the pupil sees their own GP.
